In today’s world, most of us are busy. It is difficult to decide what to do first. Of course, if you have a job, you should listen to your boss first. But what about everything else? How do you know what to do first in your life? Some things must be done, but others can wait a few moments. For example, you must feed your pets, but you could hold off on making your own dinner if you aren’t hungry.

When you hold off on something, you wait to do it. You might wait for a short time or a long time. For example, you might want to ask your friend a question, but they tell you to wait just a sec. You can hold off on asking for a minute or two. On the other hand, if your dog has flown the coop, you might hold off on doing anything until you locate your dog.

Andy and Dominique could not hold off on finding bathrooms. Now, they’ve lost Kelsey. In today’s English lesson, they begin to look for her.

Andy_H:  Hello… Dominique? Hello? Hold on… just a sec!

Dominique:  Hello? Andy? I can’t hear you. Where are…

Andy_H:  Hello? Can you read me?

Dominique:  Andy…

Andy_H:  Dominique?

Dominique:  Of course, it’s me. Where are you?

Andy_H:  Where are you?

Dominique:  I’m precisely where I was! What are you doing?

Andy_H:  I don’t know. I went to find another bathroom.

Dominique:  You couldn’t hold off on doing that for a few moments?

Andy_H:  Sorry. I had to go. What’s up?

Dominique:  What’s up? What do you mean, what’s up? Kelsey has flown the coop!

Andy_H:  What?

Dominique:  Kelsey is gone!

Andy_H:  Kelsey is where?

Dominique:  EXACTLY!

Andy_H:  What?

Dominique:  We need to find Kelsey!

Andy_H:  Oh! Jordin’s calling. I should probably get this…

Dominique:  Just hold off on talking to Jordin. Wait until we locate Kelsey.

Andy_H:  Oh, we’re trying to find Kelsey! OK…

Dominique:  Andy!

Andy_H:  OK, OK! I’ll start investigating where she is.

Andy and Dominique are trying to talk on the phone. Dominique can’t read Andy, and then, Andy can’t read Dominique. Finally, Andy finds a good place to talk. Dominique asks where he is, and Andy explains that he went to find a restroom. Dominique is angry because they lost Kelsey.

Andy asks what’s happening. This makes Dominique angrier. She tells Andy that Kelsey has flown the coop. Andy can’t hear her again, and he doesn’t understand. Then, Jordin calls him. Before he can answer Jordin’s call, Dominique tells him to wait. It’s more important to find Kelsey now. Andy begins the investigation.

What are you holding off on doing? Do you know someone who has flown the coop?

I  don’t usually hold off on doing something. That is because making people wait for you is pretty bad chioce. If someone calls me to do something, I would put down my stuff and help them.

I try to never hold off on things that I have to do! It can become a snowball after a while and you get all stressed out because of simple activities that you should have done before.

I remember once, when I was a child, my cousin told me that he wanted to have the flown the coop he got his things (3 pieces of clothes, 5 dollars and some food) and went to the bus station, when he got there it started raining, he got all wet and came back!
