Hi Joy4short,

If the person is indicating they are in the mood and ready to excel in their work, then it could be used for being motivated to accomplish a specific task.  It wouldn’t be used to indicate someone got famous unless someone makes a statement that they had their mojo working and it resulted in them being famous.

You’re headed in the right direction, here are the details of the meaning:

“Got my mojo working” phrase was started from a song written by Preston Foster in 1956 and first recorded by Ann Cole. The song was popularized by the group Muddy Waters in 1957. The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000 and has been listed as one of the 500 songs of the century.

The meaning of the phrase has to do with supersticious activity in which people are controlled. The meaning has evolved to mean processing a unique ability to accomplish something and this “power” has been labeled “mojo working.”

Therefore, when there are a series of successes, someone may say, “you’ve got your “mojo working!”” Good try!

Dialogue Lesson No. 12: “On A Roll”

Mark also added: “Apple is on a roll and got their mojo working!”

What did Mark mean by these additional comments?

Buttafly you are probably correct, however it’s been changed how it’s used in American English.

Raibite and Lizaza, you’re on the right track, however, it’s already been determined to be good and affirmed.

The usage of this phrase by Americans means: the validity of something is proved by it’s success.  In the example, Mark is using the phrase to make a statement of the success of Apple products in the marketplace, however, it can also be used as a response by another person in reply to the statement made.

For example, Mark could have not used the phrase portion of the statement and his manager could have used the phrase in affirmation of Mark’s statement.  He/she could have replied: “Yes the proof is in the pudding!”

In this case, the manager would be in agreement with Mark’s statement.

I thank everyone for your responses and hope my explanation gives you understanding how it’s used in American English.

First of all, thank u for ur reply.

What I mean is that why use heavy here?  r there any other expressions with heavy like this?  What else, some of the slangs really confuse me when I’m reading.

In addition, my spoken english might be a bit of strange.

Anyway, it’s great to be friends with u!

Hello Raibite, which topic are you puzzled about?

Thanks Songgg, also, don’t try to get a meaning from the comment “I walked on the moon.”  This comment was not spoken in a literal sense, the speaker was joking.  I was trying to explain that you can’t take everything literally, you must consider context, tone, and even facial expression.  In the case of written English, you have to gain experience to understand the mood of the writer.  That’s why if you want to speak and write English fluently, you have to treat it not as a hobby but invest time in learning, reading, writing, speaking, and thinking in English.
