Quote

1. Quote - Listen to the quote and guess what the slang means.

“Daniel’s been really supportive, and he’s been very generous in his praise. I’m very grateful. He understands that there’s a basic premise to this site very much in sync with his idea. While he envisioned a single, large void, this is about the creation of two. If he was upset with my design, I’m not aware of that.”
- Michael Arad, winner of the design competition for the World Trade Center Memorial, talking about architect Daniel Libeskind. [Architectural Record]

Definition

1. Definition - Study the definition.

in agreement, in harmony, in step, in tune, compatible; thinking the same thing at the same time, holding the same ideas about about something

2. Use - Learn how the slang is used.

In sync” is an easy expression to use, because it’s very specific. Things can either be “in sync” or they can be “out of sync,” and there isn’t really any space in between. So, for example, you could say that you’re “in sync” with your mother if both of you have the same idea about how often you should clean your room. However, if you think you should clean your room once a month, and she thinks you should clean it once a week, then the two of you are “out of sync.”

Examples

1. Examples - Hear some example sentences.

””My girlfriend and I just haven’t been in sync lately. She always wants to go shopping on the weekends and I want to watch sports, so we argue about what we’re going to do. I don’t know how to solve the problem.”“

””When Michael Jordan was playing basketball, his team was really good. They were always in sync and they played very well together.”“

””We’ve got a problem. We just haven’t been in sync for the past couple of months. I don’t know what to do about it. Maybe we need to stop spending so much time together.”“

””The new couch I bought is perfect for my living room. It’s totally in sync with the rest of the furniture in the house and the color is perfect. It looks amazing!”“
