It looks so cool, the messed up hair, the furrowed brow, the cigarette hanging from your lips. You feel like James Dean[/def], like a rebel. But it’s not cool, and you’re not James Dean.

Kayla: So, tomorrow, May 31 – No Tobacco Day. Have you heard anything about it?
Logan: I haven’t, but I think it’s a great idea. You know, this world has come to a point where tobacco is killing millions of people a year, and the tobacco industry is actually, they have to give up certain millions of dollars for ads against themselves. That’s how bad it’s gotten.
Kayla: It has gotten really bad. Especially in Europe. I mean, everyone in Europe smokes, everywhere. There’s no, there’s no place that I ever saw a non-smoking sign when I was in France. So, I wonder if that is going to apply in Europe, too, or if it’s just here.
Logan: Well, it could, and when I was growing up, I saw kids smoking when I was in junior high, which was when I was thirteen, fourteen years old. So that’s a scary statistic right there.
Kayla: And it’s getting lower, even now. My uncle tried to quit smoking, but, um – and he quit cigarettes – but he’s now addicted to cigars because he can’t get rid of tobacco from his system.
Logan: Or, a lot of people go from smoking to chewing...
Kayla: Yeah, definitely.
Logan: ...because they think that will help them.

By 2020, tobacco will become the number one cause of death around the world, killing 10 million people per year. It will cause more deaths than automobile accidents, suicides, murders and HIV/AIDS combined.
In China, the current population of males aged 0-29 is 300 million. The Chinese government predicts that 200 million of these young men will start smoking, and 100 million will die from smoking-related illnesses.
Do you smoke? How old were you when you started smoking? What advice would you give to young people who want to start smoking?
