American rock star Bruce Springsteen, aka “The Boss,” recently released his first album since 1995. It’s called The Rising, and many of the songs are related to the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11th. Bruce is from New Jersey, so New York City has always been an important part of his life. He was one of the first musicians to start raising money for the victims of the attacks.

Bruce Springsteen became one of the biggest rock stars in the world when he released his Born in the USA album in 1984. It sold 15 million copies in America, making it one of the most popular albums in history. The Rising is quickly selling millions of copies too. It reached number one on album charts in the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.
The Rising features many sad and emotional songs. One of them is very specifically related to the events of September 11th. Check out some of the lyrics to “Into the Fire:”
The sky was falling and streaked with blood
I heard you calling me, then you disappeared into the dust
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need your kiss, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs, into the fire
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
“Into the Fire” is a poignant and touching song. Much like other songs on the album, the lyrics describe feelings of pain and sorrow, as well as thoughts of faith, hope and love.

Discussion

Born in the USA came out when I was only 10 years old. I remember liking it way back then, but I haven’t listened to it much over the past 18 years. I’m excited about Bruce’s new album, because it’s making me think about all of his old music too. I’m going to go out and get Born in the USA and maybe some of his other old albums too.
Are you a Bruce Springsteen fan? Have you heard Born in the USA? What about The Rising? Come to the Music Mix message board and let us know!
Rock on,
Migs
